HostileWorld is an interactive training platform that delivers hostile environment training online for aid workers, journalists, contractors and volunteers deploying to hostile and challenging environments. It is ideal for those who either do not have access to traditional face-to-face hostile environment awareness training or have previously completed a HEAT course and need a refresher.
This week sees the launch of HostileWorld; a new interactive training platform that uses Near-Life™ technology to revolutionise hostile environment training. The site will allow journalists, aid workers and others stationed overseas to access crucial skills and knowledge that will save lives.
The Remote Security Management course on Mission Ready is now available in Arabic. The course introduces learners to a range of tools to manage security remotely at each phase of a project – from design to closure. They are then transported, through video-simulation technology, to the war-torn nation of Zabadin – a fictional Middle Eastern country – to respond to a cholera outbreak with the fictional NGO Health Emergency International. Faced with a series of dilemmas, learners must apply their newly-acquired knowledge to take tough security decisions under time pressure and in coordination with team-mates in headquarters and field offices. The Arabic translation means that Arabic-speaking NGO workers and local personnel […]

Remote Management – or ‘constrained access programming’ – describes an approach to running projects which involves “transferring greater programming responsibility to local staff; and overseeing activities from a different location.” Remote Security Management (RSM) may be part of this approach. No longer a temporary or last resort: Donors and implementers working in insecure contexts primarily view remote programming as a last resort strategy to be adopted once other measures have failed. However, remote programming is now the […]

Improving Employee Engagement – 8 Simple Tips Employee engagement is seen as an internal state of being- physical, mental and emotional- that brings together earlier concepts of work effort, organisation commitment, job satisfaction and flow. In simpler terms, employee engagement is about waking up in the morning and not just going to work for work’s sake but feeling that your organisation is fulfilling its purpose and you are working on a common goal to achieve your business’s objectives.
